Perfect Your Casual Style

Now that most offices are aligning with the ‘Casual Friday for All Days’ trend, perfecting your casual look is essential. This does not mean the crumpled jeans on your floor and kind of clean t-shirt you hung up last night are going to fly, but there are many easy ways to achieve that breezy-but-smart look.

Start with the cleanliness factor. If it’s clean, great. If it’s wrinkled, not great, try again. A crisp shirt, whether it be of the t-shirt variety or button down is what people will see first. Paired with well-fitted jeans or chinos, you are almost home. Don’t let your hard work on top be forgot because of your 8 year old sneakers, the laces are gross and the sole is worn down. Stylish upgrades are abundant and affordable. A basic white sneaker will always work, but go outside the box with a grey or navy leather sneaker, a brown leather dress shoe, or a desert boot. This all seems like common sense, but not everyone employs it, and it will make a huge difference in completing the look.

Of course weather is a factor so if layers are needed, streamline them. An undershirt under a button-down should also be clean and without a stretched out collar. Sweaters, cardigans, and vests should be snug fitting and not over-sized. Henley’s and other long sleeved shirts look great under a plaid shirt for a more rugged-but-warm look.

In the summer a linen shirt, with short or long sleeves rolled, is the best way to stay and look cool. Don’t let it get super blousy, but the breeze it allows can be imperative. Summer is a great time to experiment with lighter washes and colors of denim and chinos as well. Don’t shy away from a pastel pant! Do keep in mind that just because the weather is warm does not mean you should dress for the beach - flip flops are for the beach or weekends only. I repeat, for the beach or weekends only.

A few staples to look into are the well-fitted jean jacket, solid colored and textured tee’s, a classic hoodie, and proper eye wear. Your wrap around Maui Jim’s may be efficient for long bike rides and hikes, but find something a bit more style-appropriate for daily wear. In addition, choose a lighter fragrance during summer months and keep your musky and more woodsy scents for winter time.

Make it easy on yourself and scoop up these bundled offers from PX Clothing - The Triple Play with t-shirt, short-sleeve button down, and sleek professional back pack is clutch and both shirts can be paired with others already in your arsenal. The Professional Bundle gets you that crisp button down along with an efficient while chic laptop bag. Along with these, find a few casual t-shirts with character like the short-sleeved henley, which is a great way to mix it up when paired with dark or black denim.

Don’t skimp on socks! While a lot of pants look great cuffed and worn with loafers or no-socks-needed (to show) sneakers, a colorful or printed sock can add character to you and your outfit. Hats are also acceptable daily wear if that’s your jam. Be sure to keep them simple and clean, or if a loud print, wear solid colors to offset.

Once you have found styles that you like, be sure to buy the appropriate sizes. Over-sized items can make one look sloppy and anything too tight will quickly become uncomfortable. The best part of the casual look is comfort, lean into it! Be true to yourself as well - these are all suggestions, but it is up to you to define your own look.
