Where to Adult Spring Break

We may not be in college anymore, but we should still take a break every now and then, especially one during the spring months. This time around you may not want to share a room with your 5 best friends, but a house or vacation Airbnb would do just fine!

Heading to the beach or a tropical locale can be pricey, so choose a place that is a bit off the beaten path or on it’s “precipice of cool.” Puerto Escondido in the Mexican state of Oaxaca is just that spot. Staying in the area of La Punta will allow you the chill vibe you are looking for with all the beauty and reduced crowds of those found in Playa Zicatela. Lovely boutique hotels and Airbnbs will run you about $500-$700 USD for the week. Food, drink, and good times will also not break the bank. Make sure to venture a touch north to Playa Carrizalillo to enjoy this smaller bay with swimmable and warm water.

Another beach destination that can accommodate a tighter budget is Cabarete in The Dominican Republic. The beaches may seem a bit octogenarian ex-pat heavy at first; however, a quick walk along the water will lead you to the more secluded Playa Encuentro. Encuentro boasts five unique surf breaks and all the charming juice and coffee shops you can imagine. Grabbing sunset cocktails in the nearby city of Sosua can be worth it, but if time is limited, bypass that for a late lunch at Wilson’s La Boca. Contact Wilson’s via their Facebook page to make sure they are open and that the one boat that carries you across the inlet is running - you won’t regret it!

One last tropical adventure, and I do mean adventure, is Santa Teresa in Costa Rica. Prepare yourself for a flight to another flight to a shuttle, or a flight to a shuttle to a ferry to another shuttle, or a flight to a flight to rental car to a ferry to (…ok, you get it) to get there. However, once there, you will thank me. Located in the Puntarenas Province on the Nicoya Peninsula, Santa Teresa is known to provide for any level of adventurer. The experienced surfer will enjoy La Lora, while a beginner can try out their board-legs a touch north in Playa Hermosa. If yoga is your (low-key) jam, then look no further than Costa Rica in general but Pranamar Villas in Santa Teresa is the serenest of spots to center one’s self. Santa Teresa also boast hikes aplenty and waterfalls to jump off of if you’re looking for even more physicality.

If you’re not too worried about a budget, then each of these places also have 4-star resorts with impeccable service. Along those lines, and you’re looking to truly up your “Adult Spring Break” with fervor, there are a few all-inclusive resorts in Jamaica (which will remain unnamed) that cater to our wilder sides.

For the bougie Adult Spring Breakers, try out the Canary Islands. Costa Adeje, situated in the south of Tenerife has multiple 5-star hotels and spas to indulge in. Check out Royal Hideaway and Gran Tacande for ultimate pampering. If you would like to work while letting off a bit of steam in an easily accessible European seaside town, try the northern tip of the island and stay at Nine Coliving in La Orotava. A quiet and modest town boasting all of it’s colonial charm, La Orotava has beautiful sea views and magnificent sunset viewing spots.

For those of us that truly enjoy getting our rocks off, on a boat, with a bunch of like-minded party goers, head to Boca del Toro, an archipelago in Panama. Filthy Friday is a real thing…a seriously ridiculous real thing. Touted as the only island-hopping day party that traverses three tropical islands in the Caribbean, you will not soon forget this Friday (or multiple if you wind up staying for more than a week). The echelons of places to stay in Panama, especially around Boca are many. The Nomad Tree Lodge allows you to sleep in the jungle…in a tree house. The staff are as authentic as the experience, a lovely group of people running an accommodation unlike any other. Red Frog Beach Resort or Punta Caracol Acqua will not disappoint when it comes to higher-end accommodations.

Keeping it state-side, try Hilton Head Island in South Carolina, Bar Harbor in Maine, or Asheville in North Carolina. Each of these destinations can provide something unique for everyone in including great restaurants, nature-based activities, walking tours, and economical accommodations. Flights to these spots may also prove slightly more bookable.

Start planning, packing, and figuring out your next Adult Spring Break move now - it’s already March!!!
