Improve Your Skin Regimen

A little “Skin Types 101” - there are 4 types of skin: oily, dry, sensitive, and combination:

  1. Oily: A certain amount of oil is needed to maintain a proper pH balance, but with larger pores and a sheen that appears after washing, oily skin can be a nuisance. The correct products will help to lessen shine, shrink pores, and maintain necessary moisture.

  2. Dry: Itchiness, flaking, and the feeling of tightness are symptoms of dry skin. These symptoms can be remedied with products that get rid of grime without stripping skin of it’s healthy and natural oils.

  3. Sensitive: Clean, moisturize, and still feel irritation and redness? Then sensitive skin may be your plight. Look for products that will help balance your pH levels with soothing ingredients such as aloe vera and chamomile.

  4. Combination: Oily in some spots but dry in others calls for products that treat combination skin. Using products that provide proper hydration while simultaneously soothing and exfoliating the skin will help combat this skin type.

No need to go overboard on products, but we only have one face so best to protect that money maker when we can. If you’re still unsure on how certain products will affect your skin, ask for samples - try a few things before purchasing the one that works best for you. Below are just a few tested and beloved products that can easily be added into your daily regime.

Brickell’s Men’s Purifying Charcoal Face Wash - Washing your face with bar soap can be effective, but it will also dry out your skin and leave your face feeling tight. A face wash such as Brickell’s removes excess oil and bacteria without stripping away much needed natural oils. The active ingredient of charcoal is especially effective as toxins stick to charcoal, creating a cleaner while still moisturized feel. Brickell’s also uses natural ingredients such as jojoba, olive, and eucalyptus oil. Aloe vera, and vitamins E, B-5, and C are included as well. This face wash is great for all skin types.

Jack Black Pure Clean Daily Facial Cleanser - The difference between a cleanser and a face wash? Not much, aside from the lather a wash creates over a cleanser. Both remove oil and dirt, however; a cleanser is best used at the end of a long day “battling” the elements such as grime and pollutants. Jack Black’s Pure Clean will also prep your face for a clean shave if so desired. It’s most helpful ingredient is witch hazel, an antioxidant, toner, and astringent which counteracts irritation while cleansing. Chamomile and aloe are soothing ingredients which help to reduce redness as well.

Brickell Renewing Face Scrub for Men - Using 98% natural ingredients this scrub works to exfoliate skin without drying it out. It gets rid of impurities while polishing your skin. Sloughing off dead skin, loose whiskers, excess grime, and unclogging pores, Brickell’s Face Scrub is one of the best on the market. Adding in coffee extract and green tea leaves skin feeling energized and clean-shave-prepped.

Ernest by Ernest Supplies Matte Face Moisturizer - A daily moisturizer may be the most important step in your skin regime. It protects and saves your skin today from showing wear and tear tomorrow. This daily moisturizer is lightweight and great for an active lifestyle. Ernest by Ernest’s product helps to control shine and oil. Including ingredients such as vitamins A, C, and E, acai, and green tea extracts, it is neither greasy nor heavy-feeling on the skin. This product moisturizes all day and has a great scent.

Supergoop 100% Mineral Matte Sunscreen - Along with moisturizer, an SPF is a must in anyone’s skin regime. Continuing to tamp down oil and shine, Supergoop’s sunscreen makes pores appear smaller, reducing shine, while protecting skin against the harsh sun. Including butterfly bush extract to protect against blue light emitted from our electronic devices may sound silly, but when we think of how much time we spend in front of our computer and iPhone screens, why not try it? The argan oil will also help to continue moisturizing throughout the day.

Jaxon Lane 100% Hydrogel Bro Mask - This hydrating and antioxidant packed hydrogel mask is good for dry, oily, red, and generally beat up skin. Masks can seem messy and like a lot of work, however, this one has proven to be the opposite - a bit slippery but as a sheet mask, easy enough to apply. Key ingredients such as collagen, vitamin B3, and peptide-infused serum has users enjoying visible results and maintaining a more moisturized feel. One box includes four masks, with one being used each week, this is a great value.

Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm Spf 25 - Don’t forget your precious pout. Keep the lippies protected and moisturized. Do not get addicted to a lip balm, but a bit in the morning and before bed will alleviate any dryness and reduce fine lines.

One last word of advice, always moisturize before bed. You will wake up less puffy and more refreshed looking, no matter what you conquered the day before.
